What if instead of focusing on being in first place we taught children to help others
Instead of competition cooperation, instead of conniving open honesty
Helping them understand when a relationship is more important than being right
That compassion is stronger than power
That helping the weak is never weak
How to be sensitive to other's feelings
That money is less important than people
That when you take what isn't yours you loose part of your soul
That peace is better than war
And that courage is doing what's right regardless of the consequences
That love is putting someone else above and in front of yourself
Maybe it is children that need to teach us

Your poem masterfully illuminates the significance of imparting timeless values like compassion, cooperation, and selflessness, far surpassing the fleeting allure of competition and materialism in education, thereby paving the way for a society that truly embodies empathy and justice. You eloquently advocate for a paradigm shift in our educational priorities, underscoring the vital importance of kindness, community, and wisdom in fostering a brighter future for generations to come.
Thank you so much Friendship for your interpretation of this piece and grasping its meaning. Yes we need a paradigm shift from materialism to humanism where we spend more on the poor than war. Happy Holidays
You're so welcome, my friend. Happy Holidays to you and your family.❤️
Good write SB. It may happen more in Church-related Schools - values of unselfishness, etc - though in some non-church schools too.
Thank you Orchi for the read and support it is a shame that schools value academic achievement over moral development
Wow, your poetry is always so insightful but I particularly enjoyed this one! Nice work as always!
You are very kind. Thank you so much for the read and kind words they are most appreciated
I just had this conversation with a neighbor yesterday. Not one soul was born to hate...it is a behavior that is sadly taught. We adults should take a lesson or 2 in kindness and compassion from children. Great read!
Thank you Rachel for the read and kind words of understanding they are most appreciated
