Christmas

Jodie

Christmas—so gentle, so bright,
family laughter spilling across the table,
plates full, hearts fuller still.

Now the night is quiet.
I’m alone in bed,
sadness creeping in with the dark,
afraid of what waits ahead.

The joy has barely faded,
yet dread already takes its place.
