The Show

Rachel Poole

I wish I truly was the girl that everyone “knows”…you know, the one that puts on the show.

The one that makes everyone laugh and smile, even giggle nervously at some of the displays she makes of herself, not sure if they really should or not.

The one that people fall in love with, just because she can make them laugh with her quick witted and somewhat dark humor.

The one that smiles so big so everyone thinks she is so happy all the time…I mean, how could she ever cry?

Well, she must be really good at putting on that show, because if you actually “knew” her, you’d see the tears stream down her face.  The tears that made her eyes glisten a beautiful shade of green, right before walking into work.

You’d feel the heartache and loss she feels on a daily basis. Not for just herself, but for all the pain and grief she sees and feels around her.

You’d hear the songs she sings in her car, not those fun tunes that people see her dance to. But the sad ones that make her heart sink into her stomach as she belts out every word.

You’d hear the gasps she makes as she silently cries in the shower, so no one can hear how lost she actually is.

No I am not truly the girl that everyone “knows”…you know, the one that puts on the show.

I am just me…the tear filled eyes, heartbroken, sad, lost girl that nobody actually “knows”…

But now it’s time…

To start..

The Show.

This poem speaks of putting on the show and mask to impress others and never let them know what lies underneath. A sad read
