Outside, a dark storm batters a cracked window pane.
Inside, a spider sips from a drop of transient rain.
Spins a web in the corner by the fortunate drain.
A gnat seeking warmth from the lamp implores
Your corner is dark, damp, tasteless, and flat.
You could use a bit of snappy decor.
And That Is That
Silently, the spider shot web lines out for a possible score.
Lightly settling on the wings of a cozy, chatty gnat.
Rolling and twisting, the gnat secured itself, snug and pat.
Hanging from the spider’s web as macabre decor.
The gnat implored, Why do a thing so without tact?
My nature as a spider, you’re my decorative snack.
And That is That.

Lovely Jerry a wonderful write that seems so metaphoric and allegorical. Loved it with its sense of personification Happy New Year and a fave
Thanks, sorenbarrett, for the read and the analysis.
Most welcome Jerry I very much enjoyed the poem
Nicely written, Jerry. Your poem revolves around the concept of predation and the circle of life, focusing on the relationship between a spider and a gnat. The poet explores themes of survival, the inevitability of nature’s cycle, and the harsh realities of existence, all while contrasting beauty with the macabre.
Jerry, this reads like a quiet parable dressed in stormlight. Wit, menace, and restraint work together, and the refrain lands as final, not smug. You let nature speak for itself…and close the door. Well done. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️
Most creative write and pleasant, enjoyable read. Keep writing. I invite you to check out mine.
Buon appetito 🤣 oh your imagery is spectacular 🕷️🕸️ 🌹
