New Year, New Me?

Megan Blaney

Resolutions
Come as
Personal
Revolutions.
What we
Really need
Is to lose
10 pounds,
And publish
A novel.
Buy a house
And invest
In stocks.
Get a puppy.
Get a partner—
Get married—
Or separate
And be strong,
Single.
Or maybe—
What we
Really need
Is to stay
Up too late—
Share a chardonnay
Or a seltzer—
With our families.

Happy New Year. For me, I sold my soul to my best friend. I have to be extremely nice and polite for a whole year. I don't even know what I was thinking. Talk about goals. I would rather stay up and drink chocolate milk and eat cookies😂 Your poem "New Year, New Me?" explores the common societal pressures surrounding New Year’s resolutions and the expectations for personal growth. It contrasts the often superficial goals people set (like losing weight or achieving career milestones) with the deeper, more meaningful connections and experiences that truly enrich life.

Wow! That is quite a new year's resolution. I don't know if I could do that with my friend, I am snarky lol. Thank you for the thoughtful comment 💕

A Happy New Year poem of resolutions that seem nothing more than fantasy wishes that we bow to once a year. Instead of spending energy on these it is proposed that time and effort might be better spent on time with family. Well done and a Happy New Year to you

"Or separate and be strong..." Indeed, there are relationships that don't work. Staying with them only destroys you little by little.

Exactly! Glad something resonated with you
