The Road That Waits

rawaneigh.99

I walked today through streets that whispered,
and the sun spilled secrets I could not hold.
Every shadow seemed to ask me questions
I was not ready to answer,
and the wind carried stories
that were not mine—yet somehow familiar.
I paused, not knowing if I should follow the sound,
or if the silence ahead
was where everything begins

This crossroad I face,
a trail on the left with fallen leaves and the right leading to a meadow of lush fields and a waterfall huge enough to fill the emptiness in my soul.
I've always let nature take its course,
but today the decision is mine.
Torn between who I was and who I am to be,
if only to cut a path in the middle
and rake the amber leaves.
I'd stuff my suitcase full and catch the next train.
Turning back time to rescue myself before the fall came and faded pieces of me is out of the question,
so I carry what I have left.
A suitcase of clothes and empty bets.
The road less taken, I turn to the right,
look back once and tell my old leaves goodbye.
