Cliché phrase, prolongs the sick,
next twelve months, is same old pic,
that’s made of habits, and promise; fake,
such is pride, in big mistake,
too much ego, too loud a voice,
creates unhealthy; many choice,
where precious place, is kept in line,
though protest stays; to be a crime,
no good power, to revise life,
the pain remains; existent strife,
as circumstances; that’ve been made,
sees all sorrow, happy played -
holidays, are now suicides,
for no change, e’er confides,
talking soothes, but is no cure,
deep inside; applaud the gore,
it depends; who makes the kill,
a police badge, knows no chill,
neither does the desperate man,
trying to prolong his lifespan,
thus, the future’s already dead,
be the blind, subscribe instead,
where influence, is not aware,
make all ages, cancel care,
design for life, design for hell,
“Happy New Year!” Should ring a bell,
cliché phrase, prolongs the sick,
now’s the time, to rightly pick –
kill double standards and hypocrisies,
bring such error, to its knees,
to bring forth a better era,
brighter years, so much clearer,
no more grotesque celebration,
of such sordid complication,
where no blood’s; on elected hands,
just needed smiles, throughout the lands,
lo’ if this is, too hard an ask,
let cancer custom; make the ash,
to give the cosmos; guilty name,
dark joke “human”; was to blame!

- Comment from author about the poem: Hi folks, as promised, here is my closing poem for 2025. Again, like the "festive" "The Green and Red Monster", it is a bit late. Of course, I wish you a Happy New Year, but when I think of it, when we do say such a phrase, do we actually mean it? As when it comes to humanity's method of existing, especially when it comes to our choices, they are most likely to be variations of our previous mistakes. Thus, there's nothing "happy" or "new" about it. With that sad but true statement said, I thought I would write this one, on New Year's, entitled "Double Standards and Hypocrisies". Like many other poems I have written beforehand, the main theme is, or seems to have been: "humanity must do better", I hint at it, or blatantly highlight it, in nearly ever poem, to remind myself and of course, all of you of that fact. Humanity's design for life have made circumstances, where a fair few people have decided that life is worth losing, and if humanity's performance was to be judged on a hypothetical "Galactic Talent Show", we would either get the red buzzer, or, I would imagine, be considered to be great tellers of such a horrifying "dark comedy", which is our existence, that is comprised of self-destructive "Double Standards and Hypocrisies", that have lead to unnecessary over-complication, division and dissatisfaction, hence the title. Please, let us build a better '26, as we, collectively, must nip this woeful design for life in the bud, in order for us to be better custodians to ourselves and the planet we call home. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who read and comment on my poems, it is very much appreciated, I hope to post some more for you in the very near future, I hope that you enjoy and take something from this one, and as always, please do stay safe everyone!
