Epiphany Enlightening

Tune: Stuttgart

('Earth has many a noble city')

Matthew 2 v.1-12 parts

*********

Wise men travelled from the east, came

To Jerusalem, the same

Saying, Where He born that is King

Of Jews, Him we worship bring

To Beth'lem they followed bright star

Had led them from country far

Went before them 'til it rested

At place of the Christ-child blessed

Star that caused exceeding great joy

As they journey did deploy

At the house saw Jesus, Mary

Offered their worship humbly

Precious gifts, myrrh, frankincense, gold

Here the story now retold

Warned in a dream they did discern

Not to King Herod return

Ah yes Orchi the famous story that sets the foundation for the New Testament and also the thematic conflict that gives great tension and interest to the story that old rascal Herod. I like your economy of words in this hymn making it so much easier to sing.

Thank you SB. I could have been 'tempted' to make it 10.10.10.10 or maybe even longer! lol. Four lines per stanza is comparatively easier.
8.6.8.6. is called Common Metre, do you know?
Not too brief, in case it became, e.g. I liking poem muchly, good writings! lol.
One hymn is a horror of 13 syllables x 6 lines per stanza!

You are most welcome Orchi Yes I understand at that rate the numbers would soon outdo the brain cells. I know that even with poetry if the rhyme pattern becomes too complex and the lines become too long the difficulty of matching meter is a nightmare and after all is said and done no one even notices and they get lost before the rhyme appears.

I remembered a worse one - 13 syllables with 12 lines per stanza! We'll be worn out, working out all that. But they split it onto shorter verses. lol.
There's an Epiphany hymn of 13.10.13.10. - bit tricky! Sounds like bingo here. lol.

Great hymn-poem, Orchi! On the 12th day of Glugmas, no less! 😂

                  • orchidee

Thank you T. Just how many days of Glugmas are there? Surely more than 12? Is it 12 million?! lol.

You're welcome! That, there may be a question only God can answer and right now it's raining green! 🤮 Actually, it's sunny and 50s F in January...so, I better not tempt the good Lord! LOL!

                        There's 12 million days for certain folk - P & Co! lol.
