Before the night takes her

Alison

A beautiful, bright sunset

Lighting up the sky with vibrant shades

The sunset brings peace

The colors fill others with joy

Even the ocean is jealous and chooses to reflect the light

People stop,

Take pictures

Watch in awe

As the sun gives everything it has before resting for the night

But the secrets the sun holds could end worlds

What the sun has seen would move mountains in fear

The sun knows what the earth she protects has endeared

She sees what the humans do to one another

She watches families die

Families tear apart

She is dying out

The colors are dulling in the sky

The sun is trying to shine bright like she once did

But the world is filling with grey

The ocean is no longer jealous, no longer reflects

People don't stop

People don't take pictures

They ignore her,

They look past the sun

Blame the sun for humans' touch

The sun will die, she will explode, but not in this lifetime

So why does it matter if she is burning out

It seems a message from this poem that people in their selfishness only care about themselves in the here and now not the future and they take the beauty of the moment and forget the impact of the past and the threat of the future. Well written
