FASCISM

nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

Fascism walks
It breathes and talks
Enabled by
The average guy
Deep in towns
In city lights
In the villages
Within our sights.

Death accepted
In singular form
Never joined up
That creates a storm
Thats how fascism
In small steps grows
Until youre under the boot
Nothing left to show.

History pleads
On bended knees
Shown in newsreels
On cable shows
We are there again
No empathy flows
Fascism walks
It breathes and talks.

    Fasco-commie-ism
    What's the difference?!

  • Dominic Windram

Great write...that's exactly how fascism starts. During the riots in the summer of 2025, my hometown of Hartlepool was hit pretty badly by gangs of thugs. I actually fell out with several ' so- called' friends due to it. I see we share the same date of birth as well as core beliefs...synchronicity I guess!

I live in hartlepool unbelievable coincidences

      • Dominic Windram

That is unbelievable...where do you live? I live at the top of Grange Road.

Good and straight forward people, salt of the earth, I worked in all the colliery towns and villages, happy memories

Fascism is addressed in this poem as a long standing issue that hides from time to time but comes forth enabled by the people. It is seen as insidious and invasive. A wonderful description of a cancer of ignorance and desire for control. Well written

Missed this (despite the worthwhile capitalisation) definitely a fave as a means of a quick reference in future..
For those not embedded in a specific location within the UK, (such as myself) can you confirm that the troubles in your little patch were slightly more than disturbances the result of a local football match?
Content of your piece plus comment seem absolutely right to me, but what is to be done? Conditions which through perhaps (to be kind) negligence have been allowed to grow and provide fertile ground for the resurgence of far right thuggery.
These would include increasing concentration of wealth, with consequent inequality and immigration (set to increase exponentially as climate change really takes hold and large areas of the earth become uninhabitable).

The riot here was just that ..a riot. Total thuggery any excuse to cause mayhem, thanks for reading appreciated

What can be said but amen…not in the “hallelujah, everything’s fine” sense, but in the so be it…this is true sense. Terribly true. You’re right…it never went away. And when people refuse to confront evil, they slowly become it. Powerful…necessary work, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

yes it is true- unfortunately for us all.
i wonder if it ever left - residue always resided deep within a few, then grew and grew..

                              • Jyoti Verma

Rightly , things just keep moving from up to down ,from down to up and this transformation....is nothing but circle of life
