CANNON FODDER

nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

Hardened troops
Step over the dead
Who wear new uniforms
Cannon fodder its said
Sent in first
Young and naive
To pave the way
For those who have seen.

The horror and death
Covered by summer dust
That marks swollen faces
In wars rabid lust
Sons of a million
Mothers and more
Who wipe falling tears
Asking what is it for ?

The insects and rats
Settle to feast
Upon the young corpses
Who died for peace
But what is war
If not a broad lie
Of mans insanity
Reason to defy.

Fighting over earthly land, or what?! Mankind's skills wasted and to no purpose, it seems. A fine write N.
How's Hartlepool? lol. I knocked Clacton (in the South) then someone said they were from there. I put my big foot in my mouth! Doh!

This antiwar poem is vivid in its imagery and powerful in its wording. It speaks out about the insanity of war and the pain it causes. Well written with good rhyme as well a fave
