THE NIGHT CAFE BY VINCENT VAN GOGH

nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

Colour breathes
The essence of man
Separate thoughts
Tied as one
Restless hours
Alone threadbare
Each tables violence
In frozen stare.

Madness paper thin
Its yellowed floor
Each hopeless dream
Its breath to draw
Billiard table
Takes centre stage
Idle and waiting
An empty grave.

Alcohol and smoke
Pipes that burn
The sleeping lust
Of vengeance turns
Colour breathes
The essence of man
Separate thoughts
Tied as one.

What a great poem...it really captures Van Gogh's state of mind through his painting!

No problem....would you consider posting an image of the painting to accompany your poem?

I understand your frustration. I have similar problems. I posted a poem today entitled Night Rain...and it took me about ten attempts to post the photo and I didn't end up getting the one I wanted either.

Just googled the painting at it reminds me of some of the pubs I used to frequent in Church Street back in the day.

Good write N. Can you add the actual picture in too?
Meanwhile - not that old joke: 'Ear, ear, that's a good poem!' lol.

I remember the painting and the poem seems to fit it well. I love the mention of color in that this was a principle element characterizing his paintings. Loved it
