If you ever awaken
In the climax of the night
Before Rest hath left its token
Of calm behind—before daylight
Sets in—you may lose appetite
For mouthwatering sleep
And be subject to the moonlight
Meeting where monsters creep
Inside your consciousness pokin
At your sanity despite
The fact that your eyes are wide open
And you have lit candlelight
To hopefully outshine and out-bright
Nightmares that try to sweep
Your mind into accepting impolite
Meetings where monsters creep
Inside your bedroom evokin’
Terror and bedtime fright
Seemingly squeezin’ and chokin’
Out mental strength and mental-might
To overpower and over-excite
You to the point where sanity will leap
Out the door and into midnight
Meetings where monsters creep.
I dare say nightmares are not featherlight
On my state of mind but heavy and quick to peep
And seek ways to hurt me in the night
Meetings where monsters creep.

Night terrors are terrible indeed. Never having had one I have only observed other that have. A night time panic attack where images of being crushed alive or cut in half lead to heart rates over 200 beats a minute, perspiration and difficulty breathing. A terrible experience. Well written
