MY FUR IS BLACK BUT NOT MY HEART!

sarojavasanth

My fur is black,
but I am not dark!
My fur is black,
but my heart is gold!
My fur is black,
but I have the same
red blood as you!
My fur is black,
just like your black suit.
I prey, for I am hungry!
but prey me not,
for your satanic beliefs!
Kill me not,
for I invite no evil!
Kill me not,
for all I want is to be loved!
Kill me not,
for all I want is
to, cuddle with you!
I bring luck and love,
for my fur color matters none!
I try to talk to you,
will you open your ears?
I invite you into my heart,
can you give me a tiny space
in yours?
My fur is black,
But I am not dark!

  • Comment from author about the poem: Black cats are believed to be bad luck all over the World except at some parts. but majority of people do think so. The truth is, it was a made up lie and black cat are neither evil nor they bring any bad luck. Lets stop this belief and adopt these wonderful souls too.

Good write S. That cat looks a bit like a Grey Persian to me!

Thankyou! The cat pic is from free images, since I don't have a pic of black cat, but being with rescue I know how many say no to a black cat thinking they are evil and some want to adopt them only for other purposes. It's hard!

This applies not only to cats and not sure if the metaphor was intended but came through to me quite clearly. Well written

My mind was about black cats but I get what you mean. Being with rescue and adoptions, most often we find it difficult to get a black cat adopted as people believe they are evil or invite evil and what not! But black cats don't and they are cats like any other cats and this breaks your heart to see them wanting love just like other cats. This poem just flowed with the thoughts in one of such circumstances. Thank you.

When my daughter was young she wanted a black cat and we had to search high and low to find one. The animal shelter out of county would not give us one they had because we were out of county and finally with a lot of convincing and documentation we were able to get it You are most welcome

Yes, Shelters and rescuers try to be extra careful with Black cats to make sure they go to a right family and a safe and good home. Thank you for giving a home for a cat from the shelter. They deserve so much and a loving home.
