No Mercy, No Rest

Elaine P.

No Mercy, No Rest

I cannot stop the thoughts

That confine me within the four walls of my guilt.

It is a harsh fate.

A dark and endless tunnel,

With no doors to offer a reprieve

From the pointless struggle.

I cannot sever ties that bind me to my grief.

Obsession, yes, I cannot stop it.

Not a slow drip, but a waterfall,

Wearing down my sanity,

Shaping my waking hours.

Wave upon wave,

crashing on the shore of my tortured mind.

Bringing cool relief, then pulling it away

Like so much sand,

at the mercy of the sea.

But it has none.
