On my Hobby Horse

Pete the poet

I sat beside my hobby horse

Waiting for the call of course

Of the approaching night

Watching carefully as the light

Was extinguished as it might

Wanting to hide behind me

I stood over the hobby horse

Wanting it to race right away

At 6 to 1 on its a racing day

Could it win up against others

That seemed more important

Waiting in turn I was laughing.

I sat upon my hobby horse

Urging it forward with words

It was my favourite, it’s absurd

Because when trying to rein it in

It slipped away from me trotting,

I am in the stables now, sleeping.

Beautifully written. Your poem "On my Hobby Horse" revolves around the whimsical yet contemplative relationship between the poet and his hobby horse. It captures the innocence and joy of childhood imagination juxtaposed with the passage of time and the inevitable transition into adulthood. The hobby horse symbolizes both playfulness and the yearning for freedom, as well as the nostalgia for simpler times.
