Guides of the Threshold

Matthew R. Callies

In twilight's hush, where shadows play
Psychopomps guide souls on their final way
With gentle hands, they lead the lost and worn
Through darkness and the unknown, a guiding dawn
Charon waits, his ferry's old and worn
St. Matthew scribes the names, as souls are born
Valkyries choose the brave who've fallen in fight
Grim Reapers stalk, a harvest of endless night
Anubis, Hermes, and Hine-nui-te-pō too
Each culture's guides, with rituals anew
They stand between worlds, a bridge of light
A safe passage, through the endless night
