Mustard Light

Ray Moonee

On silky yellow fields
flowing beneath the blue sky,
with the taste of life,
coated in hope.

The cosmos smiles,
spreading warmth,
sprouting quiet riches.

Announcing the arrival of spring
wearing mustard sarees,
flowning over green earth.

Sprinkling hope
as the ice begins to melt—
life cracking open
with the chirping of birds.

Connoting a season of knowledge,
art, and literature,
where mastery slowly cooks
as prayers rise to the goddess.

Gathering the offering
to cherish it eternally,
we celebrate the coming of spring
with saffron rice
melting within us.

May Goddess Saraswati,
divinity of art and purity,
guide our minds and words.

Happy Vasant Panchami

  • Comment from author about the poem: Mustard Light was written as an observation rather than a celebration. Vasant Panchami, to me, is not only a festival of color, but a subtle shift—where the land, the mind, and the spirit begin to soften together. The mustard fields, the saffron rice, the prayers to Goddess Saraswati all point toward the same idea: learning arrives gently, like spring, not by force but by patience. This poem attempts to hold that calm moment where nature, knowledge, and hope coexist—before abundance, before certainty—when warmth is felt but not yet declared.
