One, two, three, four....five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten

sorenbarrett

Three maybe four for a woman that wouldn't open her car door
Then ten, a corpse that won't comply so shoot him again
Men in armor, guns at side, won't show evidence, masked, got nothing to hide
Law or execution, all the same, imune from prosecution, cold as their name

  • Comment from author about the poem: Trying to recognize that there are always two sides to a story is difficult when one side hides from investigation and what they report contradicts video footage and bystander reports. Report was she was shot twice in the chest, once in the arm and maybe the head in that blood was flowing out her ear. He was shot approximately ten times while being held down by several men.

    • sorenbarrett

Thank you my friend it is appreciated

    • Doggerel Dave

One of your most political. Keep up the good work.

      • sorenbarrett

Thanks for the read Dave and comment but I am apolitical this one is simply humanitarian tomorrow will be the political nonpartisan one. Deeply appreciate your feedback my friend.

        • Doggerel Dave

OK, does - a clear adherence to the facts - suit?

          • sorenbarrett

Indeed it does my friend if we have all the facts. And if it is not poetic but judicial.

            • Doggerel Dave

              I await with anticipation.

              • Doggerel Dave

Both great and sad (stronger terminology available) to see this topic raised here. Great that witness on a poetic site goes beyond ‘love’ trees and so on; sad that such a situation exists at all.
Couple of loose ends: large, in terms of word count, exchange between Friendship and yourself seems to have disappeared. Full of interesting issues as I recall.
Also, since you don't listen to news, don't watch TV don't do social media you must have alternative news sources. I’m always interested in widening the range of my own sources – Any recommendations?

                • sorenbarrett

Get my news form other people then check it out on the internet Dave, try to check all sides but sometimes one or more of the sides does not get adequate representation in the media. On top of it all they have succeeded in making me totally paranoid so that I believe nothing I see or hear.

                  • Doggerel Dave

May have to go back to more regular news sources then. At least you aren't obligated to respond beyond a shout and a click.
So did Friendship and you ride off and live happily ever after?

                  • Tristan Robert Lange

At three I stopped to maniacally laugh and expected lightning and thunder...then I realized that was the title, and not Sesame Street! LOL! Sorry, I couldn't resist! My silliness aside, Soren, this is a stark reckoning. The repetition, the escalation, the absence of evidence or consequence…it all builds toward the same conclusion. When power answers only to itself, justice becomes theater. This poem names that without flinching. Powerful and necessary, my friend!🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

                    • sorenbarrett

Thank you Tristan for the read and comment. Yes I too laugh at the absurdity of what happens when denial meets footage and refusal to investigate both sides of a situation meets a public demand for clarity. When official statements are carefully worded to deceive and yet allow a back door for retreat under scrutiny. I more than most realize there are two stories but why are they not being told in open form of the court where no one should be above the law. And how do you explain that it takes ten shots when a now unarmed man is being secured by several other men on top of him. A bit excessive?

                      • Tristan Robert Lange

You are most welcome, my friend! Yeah...and not even ten consecutive shots. But shot...then pause...then four shots...then pause...then five shots! Excessive and inexplicable for sure. Scary stuff...and, most disturbing, is the blatant lying and dishonesty. "Don't believe what you saw...trust us." Super sketchy at best, no matter what the other party was or wasn't doing...and as you said, already disarmed and pinned down by several people.

This hits like a blunt report filed by the heart—no poetry-padding, just impact and aftermath.
Gritty, necessary work that refuses comfort and forces the reader to stand where the bodies are.

                        • sorenbarrett

Thank you Thomas for your review and kind words of support they are deeply valued. When so many gave their lives for what they thought was liberty and justice why do we so easily give it away?

                        • Teddy.15

I've been seeing all this from Europe, if we except this when does it end and how far do they go? I'm so miserable about it all, he was a nurse from a Hospital, America isn't democratic at all anymore freedom of speech gone, rights gone, I cannot believe I see this, it's Trumps channel the world is watching, and it's not Hollywood quality. I'm sad for the young. 🌹

                          • sorenbarrett

Thank you so much for the read Teddy and the words of support. I do not believe what the media says nor what the government says but video footage raises questions and as for me it is all a sign of tragic incompetence or well planned tyranny.

                            • Teddy.15

We also live in a world where people hold phones instead of helping, so damn much to chew on. 😢

if this was a scene from a movie..it would have won an Oscar. But since it was actual footage, the technicalities will be questioned.

                              • sorenbarrett

Thanks so much for the read my friend you are most right I sometimes wonder if the whole thing is not a CyOps maneuver to rile the public into revolt. Then I say that is paranoia but what is more sick thinking the whole world is out to get you or believing that everything is okay when it is not. Troubling times are these.
