POSH or Posh

rebellion_in_sanity

HR lady stepped on the floor:
an open plan,
no cubicles except
for the top management.

Everyone cast expectant glances,
hoping for the announcement
of annual increment.

How was everyone performing
against their performance targets?
Everyone said in unison:
their performative performances
satisfied the management.

Were they adequately tooled
by their managers to perform?
An uncomfortable voice stammered:
they didn't need the managers,
for with the tools, they were born.

Silence...

Was everyone compliant with POSH*?
Landed like an auditory whiplash.

Another silence;
a feeble voice replied:
with the remuneration they received
it would be quite a while
before they could dream of
being posh...if ever.

The HR lady frowned,
gulped thrice in quick succession:
"No increment for anyone."

Within a thick, stunned silence;
someone whispered:
"Would 'anyone' include the HR?"

        Well said. Your poem deals with themes of corporate life, employee dissatisfaction, the often hollow nature of performance metrics, and the implications of workplace harassment policies. It reflects the tension between managerial expectations and employee realities, underscoring feelings of compliance, disillusionment, and the pursuit of status ("being posh").

            Rebellion, this is sharp and unsettling in the best way. The poem builds tension through procedure and language, then lets the absurdity expose itself. That final whisper lands like a delayed shock. Fantastic...good to see you post again, my friend. ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›
