It feels like it’s been months with you not constantly on my mind,
The loss of you is now constantly reminded.
Out of all the stories I’ve seen us in,
Gatsby is the truest.
We both were down on our luck kids who met and fell in love,
You went away but never a day you weren’t on my mind,
But your online presence in our relationship became similar to your physical presence,
Cold, invisible, ghostly, and lonely.
Even when we were no more,
I wanted us to be more.
Then when I sent a letter to that green light of yours,
You found Tom.
We professed our love to each other once again,
But it was Daisy and Tom in the end.
Everything I’ve done was for you Daisy,
Even with affections for other women,
I felt like I was betraying you because no one could fill the hole you put in my heart.
I'm still looking out at your green light,
maybe looking for a glimpse that these undying feelings will end.
