Listing at Twenty-Nine

Poeticdiplo

Twenty-nine years of salt and spray,

A listing ship on a darkening deep.

Before the hull begins its sweep,

I’ll hold the gold of a brighter day.

There once was love, there once was us,

There once was joy in the rising sun.

Though the voyage is nearly done,

I find a peace I can truly trust.

The sea is rough, the path is wide,

Memories held by a worn out thread.

God’s hands still spread

Love and healing for the journey ahead.

We unfurl our lives as the timbers part,

Bound by shreds of mercy and thinning air.

I leave the slivers of grace right there-

A quiet anchor for this grateful heart.

This love poem has a most interesting rhyme scheme that seems to vary. It's complexity and unpredictability leaves it with an expectant quality. Nicely done

Thank you. The variation was my attempt at imitating life … varied, unpredictable.
