('The God of love my Shepherd is')
Luke 5 v.12-15
********
A man came to a city, see
He full of leprosy
When seeing Jesus then did fall
On his face, on Him call
In his great need, said, Lord, if you
Will, you can make me, true
Clean, heal me, have mercy, restore
Then health I shall have sure
Jesus filled with compassion, He
Said, I will do, so be
And the leper He touched, was when
Healing came to him then
Jesus did say, Go show self to
Priests, and make offering too
As Moses said, for a witness
But to all not confess
But he went out and blazed abroad
His healing, told the word
Though for that time it was not good
Made Jesus' stay awkward
Yet He still healed many who came
To Him, they heard the fame
Of Him from the leper restored
They worshipped Him as Lord

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.6.8.6. A strange title, but Jesus said for the man NOT to tell others in this case. He was only to make an offering as a witness of his healing.

A great story and parable so to speak of what one should do if blessed and given a gift. Should one not give credit where it is due or keep the wish as asked. Well done Orchi
Thank you SB.
Most welcome Orchi
Not too sure of J's motivation here Have you any insight, orchi?
Thank you D. It seems to me, that as in Verse 5, the man was asked - or commanded - by J not to go and tell everyone of his healing. It's a natural thing to do, to share good news with others, though in this case it made J's stay awkward - too many crowds around Him?
This Gospel, Luke, says Jesus' fame increased but leaves out a bit in another Gospel in Mark, where, yes, His fame would increase, because the man disobeyed in fact, and went and told everyone.
Did J wish to remain incognito? Not being funny here - just because I have no faith does not mean I don't believe a historic figure J existed..
All I can think of is that, in that case, it was best for the man NOT to go and tell others, as J said to him, as it would make it more difficult for J at that time.
What do you think his motivation was, then? J's whole existence surely is part, as recorded, of a grand plan.....
Yes, there is 'Go forth and tell the gospel to everyone', yet in this case - not to!
Contradiction yet to be resolved?
I can't think of more to add than I have already said.
Fine orchi - you did your best, and no one can ask of you any more than that...........................
I am going forth and not telling any more about it...... cos I have nothing more to tell. lol. Fido will know of course. Why didn't I ask him first? He knows 99% of everything.
Does he think that those chaps who did all the recording back then (A) may not have known what they were talking about, and (B) it was too early in history for the concept of cooperation to have any currency (much like today, really) which would have enabled them to get their stories together properly? lol
Ohh, Fido knows the answers to 99% of everything. lol.
Well let's have the answers, then. Look orchi, above I told you you had done your best, and I was prepared at that point to let sleeping prophets lie. However a new avenue of enquiry presented itself in the form of Fido. Now this whole issue has gone on far too long, and the extra expenditure of energy I have invested here since Fido was introduced demands some recompense in order that I may sleep soundly at night..........
I dunno now. Was gonna let this slip quietly into the Archives - where all the poems go after 24 hours of posting.
But how much more rewarding it would be to let this slip quietly into the archives with the truth, the solution clearly explicated for all future Biblical scholars to refer to - It is your moral duty to get Fido on the job now.....!
I know not more!
But we have established that Fido does................................................
My soul needs some healing right now! Nice on O 🕊️🙏
Thank you A. Come unto me, all you that are weary and heavy laden........(Matthew 11 v.28ff) - come unto Jesus, that is, not me myself! I got no healing powers in myself.
Go forth and not tell, for many will swoon! Ah-gah-gah-gah-glug-gluggity glug glug!
😳
Well, now that he got his glugs out of the way, great job on this, my friend! Lovely hymn-glug! 🤣🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
Thank you T. I just knew Popeye wouldn't follow that instruction NOT to tell! Doh!
Nope! He never does
Beautifully done!
Thank you GS.
