Until

Tonya Titus

With subtle unexpectedness I felt a wave today of what I thought had quietly faded;

a painful re-awakening to what once was, and the void that still remains.

And my heart whispered your name, for my voice failed.

Nor did my eyes release the tears that fell inwardly,

lest only a wave become a flood and drown me in that gaping place of loss.

So again I embraced the thought of you with yet another goodbye,

though finality can never be.

For grief, never fading, is but quiet....until.
