It feels as though it just slipped out of reach, when we were happy under one thousand dancing stars
Life was all cheap drinks, slow nights and fast cars
The future and the universe were all ours
Was it real then, or were we just dumb?
Because now, you don’t like that I’m here, I don’t like that I’m under your thumb
Now, you don’t like that I don’t care and I don’t like that I’m numb
I’ve been over holding you, you’ve been over holding me
So close your eyes, take a breath, we’ll let go on three
Why would we stay in each other’s chains when we just want to be free?
So watch the stars fall out of the sky
Let go, I’ll fade away, in silence, let us die
We blink, but isn’t it haunting how neither of us cry?
I wish you well, but why would we settle for everything less than ideal?
We need to part if we want to grow and want to feel
Like we’re made of anything softer than steel
We need to drift away towards the sun, shadows casted on each other have made us cold as stone
And if all we know comes next is that we are alone,
Isn’t it better to be sure than to be together feeling like it’s an unknown?
