Needle in my gum

marissa

I saw a needle in my gums.

Acutely aware as it went in.

I saw a needle in my gums.

I willingly hurt myself,a sin.

But why a needle and not a gun.

I don’t know,maybe i’m dumb.

A needle’s strange for a choice of pain.

I thought no eyes could see the shame.

But i saw the needle in my gums.

I knew i was not the only one.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem highlights self harm-but it is not something that has happened in the real world to me or anybody i know.I want to make that clear,it is just a spur of words and poetic imagination.

I personally hate needles but many perforate themselves for decoration, health, to get a high, to feel the pain and know they are still alive, self punishment. A poem that hurts. Well written

Strange how a needle can save you or kill you.
I self harm watching my football team, wondering why I put myself through the pain.
