The Archer of Altdorf

Matthew R. Callies

In Switzerland's mountains, where the eagles soar,
A hero emerged, with a legend to explore.
William Tell, the archer, with a heart so bold,
A symbol of freedom, with a story to be told.
Gessler's tyranny, a darkness that fell,
A challenge was issued, a test of skill and will to tell.
An apple on a head, a shot so precise,
Tell's courage was tested, with no room for compromise.
The crossbow creaked, the arrow took flight,
The crowd held its breath, in pure suspense and delight.
The apple split, the crowd erupted in cheer,
A hero's triumph, the tyrant's rule brought to fear.
But Tell's defiance, didn't stop at one shot,
He fought for freedom with a spirit that wouldn't rot.
Through mountains and valleys, his legend grew strong,
A hero's tale of right and wrong.
His name etched in history, a legendary feat,
A Swiss icon, that can't be beat.
He stood for justice, against oppression's might,
A shining example, of courage in the fight.
With every shot, a memory was made,
Of Tell's unyielding spirit, his heart unafraid.
Through generations, his story's been passed,
A hero's legacy, forever to last.
His crossbow, a symbol of resistance true,
A nation's pride, in a hero's tale anew.
So here's to William Tell, a hero of old,
A legendary archer, with a story to be told.
In Switzerland's heart, his legend will stay,
A hero's memory, that won't fade away.
For freedom's sake, he stood tall and strong,
William Tell, the archer, where legends belong.
