Oh god do let me this time sin
Let all your writing angels sleep
Let this heat over virtue win
Let this secret be buried deep
Adam and Eve were made to leave
Father of men was made to fall
Imagine what he would not give?
To sin, and be unknown to all
The clerics would now question me
But to revolt is worse than death
The evil which I hide in me
A prisoner of my own breath

Context is all here, and I find myself unsure of the relationship you have with this God to which you refer...
Read with interest.
Thank you for reading with such interest ,
The poetry is written through the perspective of one who believes in one god, is capable of sin , is trying to dodge the dogmatic principles of the religious figures of all religions.
He is making a point that the evil which we all hide is also a prisoner of our own breath and we are the prisoners of our own arrogance
And to have sinned in private is much better then publicized virtue
Well that makes sense within your (the ‘one’) particular frame of reference. From mine, it is both easier and harder to have no God, but to audit on a regular basis my actions and consequences myself.
Some call it a drive others a weakness of the flesh but weak it is not, it is the most powerful drive in man next to survival. A good write
Unapologetically!
