I see you

Poet gangster

My heart is crying softly in the dark

Thick walls around it, I always put up

My voice gets small when you come near

My face burns red from all this fear

I’ve walked so far with my reflection first

I begged the mirror to love me at my worst

Caught your eyes on me — but do you see me?

There’s something that I’m missing before I can be free

When I hide and look away, I see you

What will it take to see this through?
