Understanding

Pete the poet

Home is where there is no hurt,

As we build towards living there.

You are kindly wary of hurting me

I appreciate the place this came from,

For my intentions will kill the hurt.

Yes I am hurting, for I feel your hurt.

Your kindness to others and big heart

Are being exploited and abused,

This hurt is my understanding.

I found healing came, at last, to me

As I went against my natural inclinations,

I rejected the loneliness machinations

By, unusually, turning my back on being kind

My eyes opened where once they were blind,

For my caring had fallen on rock hard stones

Nothing changed in the way of the being alone.

For so many years exhaustion was my brother,

This is the understanding like no other

For too many years that I care to count

My kindness was rewarded by indifferent

Manner, as though I was not there at all.

Kindness met by exploitation is above all

Sickening to realise someone can only say lies,

Must rip a heart savagely on all sides,

The pain goes deep and interferes with thoughts

Of recovery, a measure so desperately sought.

This type of action defies understanding.

I say I am hurting for we deal in honesty,

It’s because your love was dealt with badly,

let us cast a spell over this to repel the cause

let us drive away anything that can pause

Our way forward to the place where equal

caring is enjoyed by both of us after all.

The hurt I feel does not need explaining

For you know the reason why I am paining,

I am sure you have the understanding.
