One Step Froward, Two Steps Back

It seems like it is always one step forward, and two steps back.

And you have had to restart so many times that you have lost track.

With every failure you embrace, there is always so much more,

And you finally realize that there is something greater in store.

Every time you got knocked down, it made you that much stronger,

And you see why the universe wanted you to hold on just a little bit longer.

You were getting one step closer to something that was greater,

Even though you didn't see the value of it until much later. 

It is hard to keep going when the results are not coming right away, 

But you know that if you give up now, you will regret it one day.

You have wanted this for so long, and you know there is a reason why you always chose to stay,

Despite the lack of sunshine and the clouds turning grey.

No matter what your brain was telling you, you knew there were brighter days ahead,

Even though your brain was telling you that you'd be better off dead.

There were days when it seemed like you were hanging by a thread,

And you couldn't stop the voices that were constantly circling around in your head.

The ones who were insulting you and screaming insults so loud,

That told you you were wasting your time, and to just go with the crowd.

To stop trying to create your own path, because it wouldn't be worth it when it was all said and done,

And when you reached out for a hand to hold, you realized you had none.

You kept going, despite all of it,

Because something inside of you was not allowing you to quit.

You knew this dream was planted inside of you for a reason,

And it never strayed away, despite the constantly changing season. 

You have this fight in you that others can only dream of,

And you have finally been able to see it as a gift from above.

And the setbacks along the way were just a chance for you to learn,

That you control the whole fire, and it is time to watch the world burn.
