the lights flash like promises unspoken,
screens buzz louder than a drunk at last call,
colors slap the face, quick and endless,
a merry-go-round on fire, spinning faster.
they say the kid's got potential,
but watch how his hands twitch,
how his eyes drift like smoke
into the pixel haze of nowhere.
quiet no longer feels like home,
silence strangles now, an unwelcome guest,
calm feels too much like absence,
the hunger grows for something sharp, alive.
no still ponds, only roaring rivers,
no hand-holding, only fists clenched,
he dances on chaos, eats the static,
an addict born before he knew choice.
once we craved warmth, a corner,
now we demand the roar of hurricanes,
the calm cannot hold us anymore.
we are wired for storms.
