Being Human

Skally

It is the small gestures
that touch us quietly.

A laugh that suddenly makes everything lighter.

A moment when the heart beats wildly.

A glance that burns itself into memory.

A touch of tenderness
that makes us feel invincible for a few seconds.
A sentence, spoken,
that echoes within us forever.

And then the other moments —
the ones when we could have leapt,
but remained still,
because courage was not loud enough.

The words
that waited on our lips
and died unborn,
because fear was greater than desire.

A small act of kindness
that reminds us
that in every human being, a light is burning.

And in the end,
perhaps it is only
a single moment
with another human being
that changes everything.

The recognition that it is in small things that greater things happen that a single word might make a difference and a single act might change the world. Well written
