Greatness

sorenbarrett

Eyes blinded too close to see how we fit in nature's diversity
A minnow in a large sea, we ask why the shark has to be
A tree that takes nutrients from the ground where once verdant grass was found
Leaves leave too much shade now bare dirt lies where once was emerald glade
Ants fight their genocidal war with enemies who's land it is no more
Wolf old deer does thin, both pack and herd in this do win
A lion kills a child, we kill a calf, which more wild, is one better than the other  half
Humans seek to protect the weak, thinking we are better and unique
With ill fit glasses we fight our fight trying to turn wrongs to right
Are human values all that count all others we can discount
Nature will always be, a far greater force than humanity

Good write SB. I suppose animals in the wild only kill because they have to, unlike humans. Some areas of Nature are free, at peace, though maybe unprotected, but secure and safe. Then along comes man (mankind) and messes it up often. Doh!

Thanks so much Orchi for the read and comment. Yes man has a way of doing that and the worst part is he thinks he is making it better. Your words are appreciated my friend

Wow this is amazing. There is so much to think about. The fatc that a person can be feel so insignificant compared to Nature. Like a small fish in a huge sea. Nature is a far greater force but that's complex. Without Nature there is no human nature. Whether we can compare the force of Nature I don't know.Certain;ly made me think.I willl say I detected a note of sadness in the horrors of nature.

Thank you David for your review and comment. Yes you are on the same track as I was with this poem. Sadness yes I feel it but that is because I am human and can't see the outcome that I trust is always the best for nature maybe not for us.

Sometimes we look at nature and think how cruel it is.
But nature knows the land can't sustain thousands of animals, so it creates a balance.
Man does something similar, he drops bombs on countries to cull the masses. (Maybe a bit contrite.)
Humans are living longer, space is running out. Nature it seems is fighting back.

          • sorenbarrett

Thanks so much Paul for the read and comment yes I see it much the same way what we feel is good may not be so in the grander scheme. Good for the group not good for the individual but I have faith in nature the she knows what is best for all.

that sounds like a Darwinist manifesto !

            • Tristan Robert Lange

Soren, this is a philosophical mirror held up to humanity. The minnow, the ants, the wolf and deer…each image builds the case steadily. By the time we reach “Nature will always be, a far greater force than humanity” it feels less like a claim and more like a reminder. Thought-provoking and bold, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Your poem explores the complex relationship between humanity and nature, questioning the moral superiority of human values in the face of nature's inherent brutality and diversity. You highlight the interconnectedness of all life forms and critique the tendency of humans to view themselves as separate from or above the natural world.

Are human values all that count all others we can discount--there's the rub.

Nature will always be, a far greater force than humanity--until we destroy it.

All the best to you, sir.
