My lovely dog,
I’m proud to be one of comfort
You often seek.
You jump and climb on the furniture in the house,
Helping yourself to the food on the table.
Punished and yelled,
You return to tail wagging
In the shortest of time,
Unaffected by the noes you are told.
Are you happy,
My best friend of 4 years,
When you loudly announce the presence of an animal in the backyard.
Are you happy,
My companion in the late hour of 3,
When you bolt out the door,
With the biggest smile on your face.
Are you happy,
Only the 2nd of the dogs I’ve ever had,
When you jump on the bed
Dirty from the grass outside,
Carrying a flea or two.
Although, your life can be short,
My dear friend, I’ll be the 1st to say
Your happiness is in being carelessly free
Continue to be happy,
And I’ll live my life through you
Because it is more than some people can say,
That they live as carelessly happy as you.
So, keep on jumping into the bed with your flea-ridden coat,
And fill your belly with the food we drop,
And although we may be annoyed,
We will forever remember you,
As our lovely household dog.
