so I'm not allowed to get angry
to react
to run my mouth
to say things to defend myself
but everyone else is allowed to do things
they know will make me angry and then makes excuses for it?
since you know how to trigger me girl shame on you,
for not knowing how to apologize to me when you're in the wrong
do you not know how to hold accountable and own up to your mistakes?
you run your mouth spreading rumors on social media,
but the moment someone confronts you… you get scared.
Don’t be like that—those chickens might disown you.

- Comment from author about the poem: This piece captures the frustration of double standards. You feel like you’re constantly expected to control your emotions, swallow your words, and accept wrongdoing silently, while others get to act without accountability. That’s exhausting, and it makes the anger you feel not only natural but valid. The lines about being triggered intentionally and the other person not knowing how to apologize reveal a deep sense of betrayal. You’re not just upset about actions; you’re upset that someone who should care or know better is refusing responsibility. That’s often more painful than the action itself.

Double standards are always frustrating and in this poem they are emphasized. Nicely done
