Homo Sapiens

Humans

The only species who forgot they were organisms

eat. sleep. reproduce. Die.

Repeat

just like everyone else, but somehow we feel superior

So anything else is inferior

we have been given divine authority to

rule dominion over life

And yet can’t stop our own demise.

instead we pre-occupy our minds with meaningless things,

we hyper-fixate on a screen, overdosing on dopamine.

Involve our selves in foreign affairs

And leave our children with au pairs

raising a generation who knows no neighbor, but user @theHottest

I don't know if you feel it

like we’re missing something

our purpose

no. Not the one indoctrinated by religion

not the one we sign away with student debts

not the one focused on money, success, or status

but our connection with earth

that innate need to survive

when we absolutely needed Mother Earth to survive.

Or will we kill her before we know we need her.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This is how I’ve been feeling lately. As humans we know absolute nothing nor do we have control over anything. Regardless of this we still operate in such manner. We create systems to oppress others, to have control. But none of this matters because we’re all going to die anyway.
