My Own Enemy

Lore

Dear me,

I’m sorry for trying to kill you.
I’m sorry for making you grow up too fast.
I’m sorry for being ashamed of you.
I’m sorry for forcing you to fit in.
I’m sorry for hiding you.
I’m sorry for punishing you.
I’m sorry for hating you.

I’m sorry for not being who you needed me to be.
I’m sorry for burying you.
I’m sorry for belittling you.
I’m sorry for betraying you.
I’m sorry for abandoning you.
I’m sorry for hurting you.

I’m sorry for manipulating you.
I’m sorry for treating you badly.
I’m sorry for clipping your wings.
I’m sorry for killing your dreams.
I’m sorry for pushing you until your light faded.
I’m sorry for not valuing you.

Even now,
I’m sorry for using you to write this.

I have hurt many people,
but none as much as I have hurt you.

All this time,
my greatest enemy
has been myself.

I’m sorry.

Well written, your poem is very powerful of one self. The poem appears to be a personal reflection by an individual grappling with their self-image and the internal conflicts that arise from self-criticism.
