Meet My Rocks

Tristan Robert Lange

Notice of absence from Tristan Robert Lange
Friends, I’m doing my best to keep up with comments. 😅 I’m still current on my own poems and first replies on others’ work, but this season has been a bit of a twister. Figured I’d drop a quick note so you don’t think I’ve vanished or gone flaky.
Read. Write. Rise. Realize. 🤘💀🖤
You should know this
About me—
I talk to rocks,
You see?

Probably not—
It’s okay,
You’ll see.

Before you know it,
You’ll talk to rocks too—
Just wait and see, it’s true.

Let’s introduce us.
This we shall do.

There’s Gentle, Draco
And, of course, Gorgeous,
Dragons of devilish desire.

Ooh—how I admire their fire.

Have you met chief?
Quiet and sturdy is she.

There’s Mr. Toad and Sir Snail,
Sturdy, silent supports
For Toadstool. There’s the three.

Of course, duh!
Meet Apep,
She’s beneath my feet—
Scary at first—
A total pleasure to meet.

A huge laugh
For the Stooges,
Three,
You know their names—
Say them quietly,
Their lawyers got no grace, dig?

Finally,
Meet the Foundations,
Five,
Upon whom—
Now you’ve got it—
I’ve come to thrive.

And I will talk to these,
My rocks,
Every day that I am alive.

Tristan not sure if this is a satire but seems so to me. Some people talk to idols, religious relics, God, other to people that might as well be rocks, not listening, not seeing, not responding. We all have our rocks solid and as strong as our beliefs. Enjoyed the read my friend.

Thank you, SorenI love the message that you got from it. Believe it or not...the funny part is these are actually the literal rocks around my townhome parking area. I started naming them and, well… here we are. Should I be committed? 🤷‍♂️🤣 Of course, they serve as metaphors too, but sometimes the smallest foundations become companions. Anywho, figured I'd show a different side to me today. I appreciate the thoughtful read, my friend. 🪨🙏🙂🔥

We name animals even mountains and hills, rivers and valleys why not rocks. I have a large boulder over 20 feet tall and more that twice that in diameter right by the house and it has served as a sentinel for years everyone just calls it the big rock.

Soren, I completely get that, my friend…once something sits beside our lives long enough it almost becomes a companion of sorts. My little crew of rocks feels a bit like that to me as well. Funny how the most ordinary things end up carrying a story. 🪨🙏🙂🔥

Didn't he say something about the stones crying out?

You never know, one day they might talk back to you!

Valiantstar, haha… yes, exactly! That line has always stayed with me. If the stones can cry out, then maybe talking to them isn’t as strange as it first sounds. Either way, I suppose it means they’re already part of the conversation. Glad you caught that thread, my friend. Rock on! (pun totally intended). 🪨🙏🙂🔥
