Prioritize yourself
Then think about others
Even though they may be
Your own sisters or brothers
Don’t bend over backwards
To help people in need
For they will become clingy
And on your compassion, feed
If you don’t draw boundaries
And keep your head held high
You will be used by people
And left up high and dry
So learn before it’s late
And you, your actions, hate
For being so kind and meek
Since people may think you are weak
In this commercial world
The world bows before might
So learn to stand up for self
And do not compromise, if right.

High time you wrote a self improvement book. Tell it like it is, Safina. 'How to Win Friends and Influence People' never worked for me!!
will try if you promise to read it fully - ha ha
btw had great ambition of writing a blockbuster novel in my youth; until now have only written articles and short stories till 2025 - now it's just poems...
Ah me - the decline and fall....I know the feeling...
So letβs just hope that we bounce back like yo yos whenever we slip or fallπππΌ
Stand up for what you are and believe, I couldn't agree more. A lovely write
Thank you for understanding. god bless you
You are most welcome
Safina, this reminds me how many people eventually reach that realization that caring for others cannot mean losing yourself. Learning to set boundaries is a difficult lesson but often a necessary one. Your poem reads like advice given after walking through that experience firsthand. Strong message here, my friend. πΉπ€ππ―οΈπ¦ββ¬
True - I used to bend over backwards to oblige and realized too late how I was ignoring my own needs. Lesson learnt thankfully π even if late π
Indeed. Never too late to learn...unless one is dead. Then that might be problematic. π€£
so true - while there is life, there is always hope that a lesson has been learnt, and then implemented..
So very true. Excellent message and well written. Thank you for sharing!!
Blessings, Katie
I feel many of this fall in this trap so itβs better we start looking after ourselves first so can care for others as needed π
Powerful work.
thank you so much
Beautifully written and a lesson we must all learn to do better I believe. A favorite of mine!
