POEM :
“LIONESSES TRUMP THE LION…”
1st part
1st section
What a weary life, what a sorry fate :
It be not so in other tribes :
Why should this happen to lionesses ?
In the name of the lion God,
What have we done wrong ?...
2nd
‘Tis an unequal war,
A hopeless battle :
Everything be load’d against lionesses :
Other animals a better fate do have :
They see not their offsprings
Before their very eyes butcher’d…
3rd
What a sanguinary race,
These goddam male lions…
Yet we have no choice but to live with them :
‘Tis our destiny,
The cruellest destiny of any species :
Mums witnessing the murder of their kids
Without being able to do anything…
Ah, how a Mum’s heart be torn apart…
Goddam male lions,
Be ye damn’d and go to hell…
4th
They create,
They destroy,
They murder,
No pity have they
For the very offsprings of their tribe…
-------------------
Second part
5th
Hello !
What be ye complaining about ?!..
How else will ye get them gorgeous kids ?...
Will they fall from yon firmament ?
Wretch’d beings !
Think a bit
If ever ye have some brain...
6th
Ye be responsible for the hullaballoo :
‘Tis not for nothing that we be endow’d
With devastating powers :
Almighty lion God his job does well :
Else the species be extinct !...
As ye sow so shalt ye reap !
Now begone, mindless creatures !...
----------------
Third part
7th
Lionesses of the harem,
Let’s unite and once and for all
To solve the problem !...
For how long more should we thus
Suffer the crushing of our hearts ?...
Who says it should be thus ?...
This be senseless !...
In no other tribe find we this crime...
8th
Enough is enough !
We be weak by staying separate :
In teaming up we be more powerful :
Let’s join our jaws
All our forces,
Let’s all bare our fangs :
That lone braggart for mercy will cry !
9th
Let’s inverse the harem :
Let there be many males
And just one female :
By lion God, ‘twill be a jolly sight !
We can pick and choose
And enjoy ourselves to the full !
10th
Right ho ! Let’s go now,
Let’s go !
Let’s grab that mother-er-murderer
And fling him about !
We can do it !
By lion God, we can do it !
He will have to beg for mercy !
------------------
11th
Hey, lionesses, be ye crazy ?
What hath the world come to ?...
Ye be attacking a king ??
12th
King no more !
King ? Our paws !
No longer shalt thou be king !
Run for thy life
Afore ‘tis too late !
13th
Look ! See how he scampers away !
His power always had been fake :
‘Tis we that grant’d him that power :
Foolish we !
Comrades lionesses
We have seen our true worth !

A lovely poem with a personified view of the lion pride. Here human values prevail above nature's. Nicely written it speaks through the voice of a narrator that seems to encourage the lionesses to raise up in revolt to rule the cruel males. Nicely written Soman
It seems like the fables of the French writer La Fontaine (1621-1695). We will note that male lions have no choice. The females are not responsive. If nothing is done, the species disappears. So the lions have found a nuclear weapon. As the females spend all their time looking after the kids, the males kill the latter off. Then biological changes arise in the females to make them responsive. Any time a new male comes along, he will fight the existing male. If the old male loses, he has to leave. The females are not responsive. The new male uses the nuclear weapon to kill off the kids that are not his. The females become responsive. We can't blame the males. If that instinct did not exist the species dies off. It's a cruel tragedy, but the males are not responsible for it. Nature is responsible. Usually nature does it job well. Here nature is crazy and the kids end up paying the price....
I guess this insures the strongest male's blood line
The cubs are never sure to survive, even if they come from some strong fellow. The new male who takes over the harem will not spare them. He has nothing personal against them : it is just that they have to die to force the females... The male has no other option.
