I want to go out with my shoes on my hands
A hat strapped to my toe, glasses on my wrist
I want to walk out and see a seagull dance
Paint my nails hot pink and put my hair up in a twist
I want to run barefoot without fear
Eat lettuce wrapped burgers instead of buns
Go to a basketball game and embrace the looks when I don’t cheer
Maybe join a marathon and just watch as everyone runs
I want to play the piano but only the wrong notes
Fill up a bottle only with ice and wait for it to melt
I want to hide in a closet and write poetry between the coats
Make and wear a headband that’s actually a belt
I want to learn how to knit but just to make a quilt
Learn how to paint only because I like the feel of the brush
Buy old flowers even though they’ll wilt
And pull every door that says push
Society will get angry because I’m not following social “rules”
I’ll brush it off and run wild amidst the judgement

A wonderful poem of not only rebellion but being oneself just for the sake of doing what one wants and enjoys this is emphasized in the subtle ending where the whole poem rhymes wonderfully and the expectation of a rhyme on the last line is not fulfilled. This reflects the feelings of many including myself and is a fave
