On life's journey,
I embarked barefoot.
In winter, dead branches snap
Under my step,
Leaving behind the echoes
Of glacial rocks.
Falling snow
Touches the warmth
of the body
And disappears
And just like water, we follow
The same rules:
Born as fragile crystals of flesh,
We dissipate.
In the vastness surrounding us all,
Perspective fades. Like snow fractals,
Drifting in the same direction,
Not knowing we are all the same.
On life's journey, I glided side to side,
So close to other souls,
And yet so far away,
Not seeing them for who they truly are.
The shell of thoughts wrapped tight,
Like a cocoon of false protection.
Feelings and pains,
A hollow web.
Through the journey,
I have never dared to ask:
What’s that so fragile to protect?
It’s not as if the soul would get upset.
I hope the heart will melt this shell
Before I touch the ground,
To have the chance of finding out:
Why are we here?

The poem as deep as the question slowly melts line by line. Barefoot, we all come bare into this life literally and mentally as well. Memories of before dead and break underfoot melting away, We do indeed follow the water's course seeking the lowest level through the easiest manner. Flesh mortal becomes ashes to ashes dust to dust. We loose perspective that we are all the same blinded as to our brotherhood we are egocentric and prejudiced. A lovely poem
