A Moment in the Dark

markashley1961

standing
still in the darkness
still in the silence
in a still moment of time

standing in the dark
a sea of smiling faces
looking up
waiting
looking up and waiting

waiting for the moment
waiting for the whisper
the brief voice in the black
waiting for the word

cold and dead in my mouth
the silence, the whisper, the word
and from the black
from the never now
into the nowhere
fragment becomes form

and the frog pool sings
through the silent dark
through black and green and the terrible deep
a chorus of empty
a nothing consumed
a melody of the absence
into the forever nowhere
echo back into the black

my mouth is dry
silent and dry
dry and empty
the tears of the frog pool
wash over the night
on into the black
the waters calm
the waters still
silent and still
and curtain closed

Sounds of the night fade into silence and the curtain falls just as darkness. Nicely written
