(Verse 1)
No rest, no sleep
All work and toil
These vital invertebrates
Require no soil
Exhilarated, elated
Or beaten into submission
Constantly cooking neurons
With relentless repetition
Reared on only the finest
Lyrics and beats
My earworms are marbled
Like Kobe beef
Indifferent to weather
Come hail or shine
Nothing deters these benevolent
Insects of the mind
(Chorus)
Earworms speak
And earworms grease
The cogs and levers of the mind
They crank the shafts
And swing the metronome
To keep thought pulsing in time
(Verse 2)
My earworms dissect and recycle
Letting nothing go to waste
Frolicking in French psychedelic melodies
They have the strangest taste
When they hear a catchy jingle
They know they’ve got to have it
The noble, humble earworms
Are creatures of habit
At night they rap away
Restlessly tapping in time
Hungry hornets gestating
In the honeycomb of my mind
In the morning my ear
Is pressed to the ground
Earworms gently swaying
To distant vibrations of sound
They jam together at noon
Fedoras shielding their eyes
They echo the smoothest symphonies
Repeating the sweetest reprise
Always nurture thy earworms
Be loving and be kind
Prescribe them grass-fed music
The prebiotics of the mind
(Chorus)
Earworms speak
And earworms grease
The cogs and levers of the mind
They crank the shafts
And swing the metronome
To keep thought pulsing in time

I wish my earworms were as upbeat and melodic as that, Syd. What is your secret, extra sensitive receptors?
Muchly enjoyed.
PS: (preemptive strike) Am well: not quite ready to pop me clogs yet...!
Hi Dave, I can only take credit for the lyrics which I wrote the best part of while stuck in traffic, completely gridlocked on the motorway on Friday.
The music is AI generated, as are the images. It still takes 4 - 5 to create the video and a few hrs to tweak the music.
I'm glad you enjoyed it though.
Very much appreciated - Syd 🍄
Unusual in a good way. This poem speaks to an old term and uses it in a new way. Nicely worded
