A garden gate unlocked but rusted shut
evokes what memory plays on stringless lyres
Between the furrowed hedgerows standing witness
there lives a fated wish of heart’s desire
Alone unvisited throughout the seasons
to weather scorching sun — inclement rain
The loneliness of what once was grows ere despondence
waiting on an unkept promise made in vain

Here is represented the uselessness of one thing prepared dependent on another in disrepair. Nicely worded and such a great metaphor for modern society Kurt.
Thanks again.
You are most welcome Kurt
Kurt, this hit me hard…there’s a deep, lingering stillness in it that settles into the bones. Beautiful piece. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
Thanks TR.
A powerful poem, you made me think. Your poem “Ere Despondence” explores themes of longing, memory, and the passage of time, particularly focusing on unfulfilled desires and the emotional weight of solitude. It reflects on the impact of neglect and the yearning for connection, as represented by the garden gate that remains locked and rusted shut.
Thanks ... 'unlocked' but rusted shut. It was once open but no longer.
