You Call It Love

Kora

I thought
You cared
For who I am.
All of the passion,
The excitement,
That lives within
My very bones.
But now I know
You cared for
The girl you
Thought I should be -
Timid, sweet, small,
A girl who knows
"When to shut up",
So I do.
Tears shed in secret,
An awkward laugh,
I have dulled
Myself to nothing
To make you happy,
And you call it
Love.

This is a poem to whether to a greater or lessor degree we all inflict on others about us. Our expectations and desires for what they be. So well expressed in these few lines it leaves the reader sad but understanding. Nicely written
