The Test Subject

Cindy

Heart made of blood,

Mind made of salt,

A science lab, perhaps,

Chemicals fill all the gaps.

Chemistry in my body,

Something I haven’t really understood.

I’ve never voluntarily

Been the test subject that stood.

Put together the salt

And blood alike,

Watch the show,

And the gnawing pain strike.

Thoughts that dissolve

In the bloodstream’s current,

Rivers of souls,

And every memory that glows.

Sugar and honey,

Wear it like a mask,

Laughter and smiles

Make it a task.

Heart made of blood,

Mind made of salt,

Valves in veins

Can’t bring the thoughts to a halt.
