Another day

Cindy

Wake up, wake up.
It’s another day.
Sunshine and rainbows,
Except they’re all grey.

Snooze again,
Just one more time.
Get up already,
Start the climb.

Put on your glasses,
Brush your teeth.
Two more minutes,
And brush your tongue beneath.

Look in the mirror,
And rub your eyes.
Wonder who’s there,
Hidden behind those lies.

Wear your clothes,
Stuff the papers in your bag.
Open the door,
Hoping I wouldn’t come back.

The deafening school bell,
And all these kids running around.
Joyful laughs,
And a carefree life.

Why does my brain
Analyze unwanted texts,
Like a living robot,
Malfunctioning in my head?

Pick up the pen,
Though it feels like weight lifting.
Write it all down,
Feel something shifting.

Why does it feel wrong,
That I’m simply existing?
Why does every breath
Feel a step closer
Towards my mind’s death?

When’s the funeral?
I’m waiting for the speech
Of every lost word,
And all the love I couldn’t reach.

Where’s the owner?
Come retrieve your mess.
Come here, oh devil,
I believe you have my address.
Father of three,
My mind, my heart, and the sea,
The one that took my body
And decided to set its monsters free.

Get up, it’s another day,
Survive it,
And make your way.

Get up, it’s another day,
One that would like to play,
A game pretty dangerous.
You’d lose your reputation,
One step away
From a serious conversation.

Would you like to play?
You wouldn’t win anything,
Only the survival
Of a day worth of nothing.

A flirtatious poem between activities and a worth of nothing. Another day takes the reader on a journey through the day. Well done
