Change is good

Aaron Roberson

Change is good…

that’s what they said,

like it’s a lullaby you whisper

to a mind full of dread.

Like it’s easy…

like flipping a switch,

like you don’t feel your whole damn world

slide into a ditch.

Change is good…

but it don’t feel kind,

it claws at your ribs,

it rewires your mind.

It shows up uninvited,

kicks down the door,

rearranges your soul

like furniture on the floor.

And I hated it—

God, I fought it with teeth,

clung to old versions of me

like a lifeline beneath.

Even when they were breaking me,

even when I couldn’t breathe,

I said, “At least it’s familiar…”

while it buried me underneath.

Change is good…?

Nah, change is a storm,

it don’t ask permission,

it don’t keep you warm.

It strips you down bare,

leaves you shaking, exposed,

makes you question every path

you thought you chose.

But here’s the twist—

here’s the part they don’t say…

Change is the reason

you survived yesterday.

Yeah…

Because that version of you?

The one stuck in the pain?

Wouldn’t make it through sunshine

if they only knew rain.

Change is the fire

that burns off the chains,

it’s the scream in your chest

that refuses the same.

It’s the moment you shatter—

not break… but expand,

like the universe whispering,

“You were always more than you planned.”

Change is the knife—

but it cuts you free,

carves out the cage

so you finally see:

You were never meant

to stay who you’ve been,

you’re a story that evolves,

not a place you live in.

So yeah…

Change is good.

Not because it’s gentle,

not because it’s sweet,

but because it drags you forward

when you’re stuck in defeat.

Because it rebuilds you

from the wreckage and scars,

turns your “I can’t”

into “look how far…”

And one day—

you’ll stand in the mirror,

not scared of the shift,

but proud of the terror

you survived to exist.

And you’ll say it louder,

with fire in your blood—

“Change isn’t just good…”

…it’s the reason

I became who I was. 🔥
